Carbon Reduction Policy

Carbon Reduction Policy

Key Engineering & Hygiene Supplies Ltd is committed to achieving net zero emissions by 2050. KEY is aware that if we reduce the emission of carbon dioxide & other greenhouse gas emission, KEY will benefit as well as our customers, suppliers, & the wider community.

Carbon reduction can be achieved through various means & in various sectors including energy production, transportation industry, agriculture & more. The aspects below are essential for mitigating the impacts of climate change & transitioning to a more sustainable & environmentally friendly future.

1.   Transition to renewable energy

One of the most significant contributors to carbon emissions is the burning of fossil fuels for electricity & heat production. Carbon reduction efforts often involve transitioning to renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, hydroelectric, & geothermal power. KEY is currently re-investigating installing solar power. Previous investigations have signalled that low generation due to our roof aspect would not make provision economical.

2.   Energy Efficiency

KEY is continuously improving the energy efficiency, in our building & our appliances, which can significantly reduce carbon emissions. KEY uses energy-efficient technologies & adopts relevant sustainable building practices.

3.   Transportation

KEY is looking at moving towards an electric vehicle fleet. We have migrated 3 vehicles to electric power & have installed a charging point on site, with facilities for further provision.

We utilise best route management when planning deliveries, with orders collated into area for efficient use of mileage, pollution reduction & to ease congestion. We encourage carpooling amongst our staff.

4.   Reforestation & Afforestation

As trees absorb CO2 from the atmosphere KEY play an active part in restoring forests & planting new trees which are important strategies for carbon reduction. We support schemes offered by our suppliers to divert profits into environmental concerns.

5.   Waste Reduction & Recycling

KEY implement waste reduction & recycling to minimise the carbon footprint associated with waste disposal & production. We work with our suppliers to reduce plastic waste, both single use & clean used polythene.

6.   Behavioural Changes

KEY encourage & educate staff to adopt eco-friendly behaviours, such as reducing energy consumption, conserving water, & minimising waste, all contributing to carbon reduction. KEY management hold quarterly meetings to monitor its carbon emission & discussions are held to establish future action. Conversation with our suppliers is ongoing to discuss how we can achieve carbon reductions goals with the continuation of recycling & how the products we purchase are manufactured. Management is keen to acknowledge relevant laws, regulations or industry standards related to carbon reduction. Our Carbon Reduction Policy will be reviewed every quarter & updated to reflect any changes.
